Title: Location of Bakhariza, Russia
Post by: Frank Schofield on August 19, 2017, 09:06:19 AM
Researching a Field Post Office P.B.44, Nov 1918, item
Proud lists location as Bakhariza
Kennedy & Crabb agree but under Archangel
Google Earth remains static
I have checked the Russian Town name changes, nothing
My early 1900's Gazetteer is no help
So where is Bakhariza???
Can any member help??

Dear Frank.

From: "Intervention at Archangel" by Leonid I Strakhovsky (1971) page 43:

"... the British command opened at Bakaritsa on the left bank of the North Dvina river opposite Archangel a school for officers...".

Attached part of map from: "The Midnight War" by Richard Goldhurst (1978).

Per

Brilliant, I needed the location for confirmation of the P.B 44 item might be Naval, the position on the map raises my hopes

I noticed both the book and map spell the name without the 'h' after the 'k'

Thanks again

Frank
