Title: RAFPOST SOUTH EAST ASIA 115
Post by: Michael Dobbs on January 10, 2019, 11:45:58 PM
I have received the following enquiry:

I am presently compiling a record of philatelic events in British Borneo in 1945-46, following its liberation from Japanese occupation. These articles are being published by the Sarawak Specialists Society in is Journal. The RAF replaced the Australian air force in British Borneo (Labuan) in January 1946 and withdrew in July that year. prior to that it appears that some RAF personnel were located in Singapore and India. One of the SSS members has shown me a cover dated November 1945 with a RAF Post Office 115 South East Asia cds. Could one of your members please identify which RAF unit used this datestamp and where it was located in November 1945.

No location is given in John Smith's RAF Postal Service book (1957) or the revised edition by Bill Garrard (Volume II) other than dates recorded used: 15.5.45 - 15.8.46.  Can anyone come up with a location(s) please?

Thanks, Mike  :)

Frank - many thanks for that - gave me a kick up the backside as I'd completely forgotten about Proud's book on Naval & RAF Postal Services and to the fact that I have my own copy!
