Title: FPO 551, October 1942
Post by: Nick Colley on June 01, 2019, 06:38:56 PM
Folks, does anyone know where FPO 551 operated in October 1942? Proud has it at Moascar (=> Ismailia?) on the Suez Canal from June 1943, but my copy is significantly earlier. FYI, my cover bears a tombstone naval censor, and is addressed to the USA - a US naval vessel, actually, USS Hobson, a destroyer. It is franked to 2/- for the Clipper air mail rate.

Thanks a lot!  :)

Nick

I have an Unattributed typewritten manuscript of WW2 FPO locations which simply show it as:

24.2.42 - ADAPS GHQ MEF
12.1.46 - APO S.205 Moascar

I have two different unattributable typewritten manuscripts and they both show the same - I have no doubt that Proud got his information from one of these manuscripts.

I wonder of Alistair's card index may shed some more light - Geoff Hanney has these so you will need to speak to him.
