Title: APO R27
Post by: Alan Baker on November 11, 2019, 05:55:06 PM
I am attaching a scan of a cover (AK) bearing this APO franking. The style of the stamp does not match the examples shown in Proud, the date being 1st July 1915, three days before the earliest date noted in Proud. Is this  a new discovery? The censor is CM3/1096, not detailed in Daniel

Interestingly, the envelope contains a letter dated 30th June 1915, which bears the sender's address "175 Co MT ASC, 12 Div Supply Col, BEF, France". I might be convinced that the letter does not belong with this cover, were it not for reference to "Mr & Mrs Williams", which corresponds to the addressee. The writing is similar too.

Any ideas?

Sorry to say the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is a false hope. Kennedy & Crabb have this recorded Type H1 APO R27 July to October 1915.

Keep trying, just a few thousand more to sort through !!

Spoilsport! Just missing in Proud, then

How about the discrepancy in Division numbers?
