Title: 3rd cover for the 27th HMS SAPPHIRE 1915
Post by: Chris Grimshaw on April 27, 2020, 11:12:01 AM
Couldn't resist

PPC from HMS Sapphire, cruiser which served with the fleet at the Dardanelles during the early months of 1915,

On the 10th May 1915 Sapphire was off Y Beach at Helles, but later in the month transferred to Brindisi for service in the Adriatic.

Censor Type described as A 106 but 40 mm x 15 mm.

RFHMS London Jun 1 15.  Insert on PPC shows a naval vessel, unknown?

The unknown ship remains unknown - it's not Sapphire which was three funnelled

I think you are fairly safe with Gould 1A 106, my two examples are 39 x 13.5 and 39 x 14 if you want to be particular.  Michael Gould notes that Carter says the size can vary.
Only one date legible on my cards : 4 Feb 1916 with picture of Spezia
