Nice cover Chris,

FWR have this as Willian Cowan Holburn initially with the Local Scouts as a Lance Corporal and then again (same service number) as a Captain with the Dental Corps .... Not sure about this??

FWR/Ancestry confirm this. He joined the Lovat Scouts in October 1914, giving his occupation as Dental Surgeon. He was registered as a dentist on 25th November 1915, having completed his qualification in Glasgow in 1913, and transferred to the Dental Corps on 9th March 1916. His medal card says he served in the Balkans

It looks like your cover was sent shortly after he transferred.

He was still practising in Falkirk in 1942 and died on 7th August 1961 aged about 70
