After a couple of days working (ahhhh) back to a nice cover of the day, as it happens it arrived in the post this morning and is a poignant reminder as we come to the anniversary of VE Day that the Far East war was still not over.
Sadly a returned cover with the cachet CERTIFIED 'Deceased'. Originally posted from Bradford on the 19th December 1945 to a Lieut J.E. Sayers R.E addressed to 37 (RB) Ind Field Sqn I.E and redirected. At this time John Sayers was serving with 71 Ind Field Coy R.E. in Java, where the CWGC Commission and amended casualty lists state he was killed in action 27 Dec 45. After sorting and the RLO DLO marks being applied to reverse it was returned with the London E.C. machine 13 MCH 46 to reverse.
