A postcard sent from Sakhalin Island to Paris. This card was not postmarked until it reached Russia's western border at Kibarty railway station in February 1905. With handstamp reading Seal of the Administration of the Commandant of Local Forces on Sakhalin. Sent to Paul Auguste Labbé [1867-1943], a French linguist and ethnographer specializing in the native peoples of Siberia. Labbé had visited Sakhalin in the summer of 1899. The sender was Grigory Zakharovich Solonina [1849-1905], who was on the Sakhalin commandant's staff. While the Japanese were fighting for control of Sakhalin in the summer of 1905, they executed Solonina for espionage on 14 July.
