Afternoon Team
Seems very quiet so lets liven everyone up a little.
Shown is a registered cover from FPO D 11, dated 6th December 1915. This FPO served 11th Division HQ located at Suvla.
Cover went via APO SZ 4, located at Suvla Bay Landing office the same day where it was cancelled. APO SZ 4 PO RD.
This is believed to represent POSTAL ORDERS and REGISTRATION DIVISION. First example I've ever seen.
Enjoy
Chris
Chris. Thank goodness. I thought everyone had moved away!
Could be "Post Office"?
Chris,
PO RD - not seen this before, are there other recording of this.....I assume on registered mail?
Pete
Hi Peter
Both Proud and K & C record this cancel October to December 1915. K & C states for "P O and Registered Mail"
This example is ex AK collection.
I've never seen another example.
Chris
Hello there, or should I say Cooee
John Firebrace recorded this PO RD, 11 Oct to 9 Dec 1915
he translated the code as "Postal Orders and Recorded Delivery"
He did not list another SZ office using this code.
