Title: Cover of the Day Canada WWI
Post by: Alan Baker on June 18, 2020, 11:07:21 AM
I promised you more Canadian, but, by way of a change, this is from WWI

It is a card addressed to a signaller with the 31st Alberta Battalion, 2nd Canadian Division on the Western Front. It bears a Belgian Military Post cancellation dated 23rd April 1916. The message is written in French and the picture is a view of the bridge at Dixmude

The 31st Alberta Battalion embarked for England in May 1915 aboard the RMS Carpathia and after a period of training, fought in France and Belgium, suffering almost 1000 casualties. The addressee, CH Mardon apparently survived the war.

The correspondence on the card shows that it was sent between comrades, so fellow soldiers. Apparently both serving on the front
