I have attached two scans of an "On Active Service" cover from an Army sister in East Africa in WW1 and post marked Indian Field Post Office 24, dated 6 February, 1916. She appears to have tried to self censor the cover, but the envelope has been countersigned by a Captain. Interesting item from a nursing sister in this theatre of war in WW1. Haven't got a clue where the hospital was.
Hi Ross
Proud lists IFPO 24 as a Stationary Office in Nairobi, Kenya. Jan 15 to Jan 17
Chris
The censoring officer is Captain Charles Thiselton Dyer Urquhart, MD, on FWR shows only Overseas Forces, South Africa
On Ancestry, it gives him serving as a civilian surgeon in the Boer War and in 1905 he was in Bloemfontein, 1910, Transvaal. No WWI record given though
There are about a dozen nursing sisters on FWR named Richardson
To confuse you (and us all) even more in the 1915 - 16 Role of Service it lists Captain Charles Thiselton Dyer Urquhart, MD - FORCES OF H.M. DOMINIONS BEYOND THE SEAS. Canadian Forces.
Thanks gents
