Staying with the same theme,
Cover to a R.E Sapper, Not sure what A.E. Cable Section represents, any clues anyone?
Also cannot read the signature of the O/C the section on the pencil endorsement. No date to give a clue as to when arrived back in the U.K.

It looks as though it is simply a unit designation AE Cable Section - see page 10 of attached document

Starts AA to AZ Cable Sections, then BA to BZ Cable Sections, etc.
Also look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/II_Corps_Troops,_Royal_Engineers and scroll down to 'B' Corps Signal Company which included AP Cable Section and J Cable Section - further evidence that AE was merely a designation and was not an abbreviation for something.
Mike :)
Thanks Mike
Appreciated.
