Title: Royalty in Italy WW1
Post by: Frank Schofield on September 13, 2020, 08:13:53 AM
The Prince of Wales (later KEVIII, then Duke of Windsor) served in Italy as ADC to the CIC Earl Cavan during 1918
The attached unused postcard printed in Italian and unusually dated "Rome 25 maggio (May) 1918"
As the Prince appears to be standing in snow, I do not think the photograph could not have been taken in Rome in May

A nice postcard - but is that a cigarette I see in his hand?  Surprising how many photos of troops you see and a good many have cigarettes either in their hand or mouth.  Nowadays people go out of their way not to show cigarettes!

Yes  it is a cigarette, being a Prince it would be
but for an ordinary OR it would be a fag!
