Title: Russian Card Serbia to Budapest 1914
Post by: Chris Grimshaw on March 25, 2021, 02:38:42 PM
Afternoon Team

This Serbian material keeps on flowing in from various sources,  slowly learning my way around the subject.

Scans show what I believe is a Russian Post Card,

SOCIETE SERBE de la CROIX ROUGE  in violet hand-stamp  = Serbian Red Cross

Two line Serbian Censor Hand stamp  = Examined by Military Censure.

Circular Hungarian Censor ZENS -Budapester Zensiur etc in red which shows censorship on arrival in Budapeat

Blue Crayon is Serbian Censors initial,

No Postal Markings

On reverse datelined Vis 1914 XII 14    'Vis' I'm not sure signifies the location or possibly day of the week?

On last line of card also shows 'Vis' as what looks to be part of an address.

Comments welcomed.

On second thoughts is it a Serbian Card?  Have a second example

Chris

Chris,

The card is Serbian and the location is Nish, not Vis.

Cheers,

Howard

Chris, do you need a translation of the German text?
best regards, Peter

ok, here is my take at a rough translation:

The card is addressed to the Director of the Ticket-Office (of Railway or Tram I assume). It says:

Dear ? Director
I am in Nish as a prisoner of war. Please inform my family that I'm well. Sincerley, Barsony

My address: Prisoner of war commando, Lieutenant Oscar Barsony, Nish Serbia, via Romania

---
Kind of interesting that he asks his boss (I assume) to inform his family...
best regards, Peter
