Title: Austrian Feld Post Card
Post by: Chris Grimshaw on April 14, 2021, 03:22:31 PM
Team

Having spent an hour plus on this one with 'Mister Google' I.m stuck, confused and frustrated.

Austrian Field Post Card cancelled KUK FIELD POSTAMT 3 = Austrian Field Post Office

Dated 8  VI 1917 Datelined 1917 VI 4  (apparently how Czech's write a date)

From Bela Crkva,  Serbia to WEISKIRCHEN, Germany (I think)

It's a Pow Card from an Austrian Military Hospital with a Cachet
K:K
MILITAIR CONTUM AMTZU
WEISKRCHUN

There's a further cachet at top of card which i'm really struggling on.

End of the month going back to British material......... :) Easier.

Chris

Hi Chris

the mark on top reads "517 Pionierkompagnie" (517 Pioneers Unit), not 100% sure about the number, could also be 5/7.

best regards, Peter

Hello Chris
In my 1895 Gazetteer there are three towns WEISSKIRCHEN (note double S)
A) in Austrian Bohemia on the left bank of the R Elbe, 20 miles N Prague
B) in Moravia 22 miles E by S Olmütz
C) in Hungary 47 miles E by N Belgrade.  Its Hungarian name Fehertemplom
If you are dealing with war against the Serbians 'C' seems the most likely.
There is no town listed with a single S.

Regards
Graham
