Title: WW1 French POW in Bulgaria - Which Camp?
Post by: Peter Harvey on July 19, 2021, 12:35:09 PM
Hi,

I am hoping with some help about the attached card - from a French POW March 1917 in Bulgaria - but I can not work out from the address given the camp.

I can read what appears to be Saramby Bulgaria (so a region) and above that what I would assume to be the camp name, any thoughts welcomed.....

Hello Peter

Shown is a listing of the POW camps I have for Bulgaria,

1.  Dobritch 2.  Eski-Djoumaja 3.  Harmanlu 4.  Haskovo 5.  Nish 6.  Philippolis (Plovdiv)
7.  Rakhovo 8.  Rassgard 9.  Rustchak (Rousse) 10. Schmen
11. Sliven 12. Sofia
13. Starazagora 14. Tatar Bazarjik 15. Varna

All the Mail I've seen from French prisoners originates from Philippolis

A very interesting card.

Chris

Peter,

Sarambey was a town in Bulgaria between Sofia and Plovdiv.

Chris, Howard,

Thank you for your help with this, never easy and I must have search for a couple of hours to find Saramby, however with you help I located on an older map.

Kind regards

Peter
