Title: WW2 - German Ax censor cachet used in Paris
Post by: John Cranmer on October 25, 2021, 09:37:48 PM

Is there any information as to when the German Ax censor cachet started to be used in the Paris censor station on mail from Canada to the Red Cross in Geneva.  From examples on the internet it looks to have been sometime between November 1942 and March 1943 but I cannot find anything more definite

Hi John

Landsmann shows 5 versions of the circular A.x censor cachet in the second edition of his book "Die Zensur von Zivilpost in Deutschland im 2. Weltkrieg", and gives the period of usage as 1.41 - 8.44.

However, I do not have any items from Canada to Geneva with this mark, so cannot comment on this specifically.

best wishes, Peter
