Is anyone able to tell me where 1  Canadian Base Office operated and do we have dates of use? Was there a 2 Base? Michael

Michael

1 Cdn Base Post Office was formed and initially operated in the UK before moving to NW Europe following D-Day.  It ended up somewhere near Brussels.

There was a 2 Cdn Base Post Office - this was in the Naples area.

There was a 3 Cdn Base Post Office - on 18 July 1945 the Unit mobilised at 1 CABPO, just south of Brussels.  The Captain OC was the only person on its strength at that time.  The Unit was to be responsible for the mail service to and from the occupational force in the Canadian zone, as well as for any other units which may be served easily through the CBPO.  The unit opened in Obernbeck in Germany  It would appear that the unit became operational by the end of August 1945.

Regards, Mike  :)

According to the BNAPS Catalogue of Canadian Military Markings, Vol 2 WWII, (ed CD Sayles) - excellent publication - 1 Canadian Army Base Post Office was in existence from 1944 - 6th March 1946

Thank you both for your help. Perhaps someone has a more detailed location. Michael
