Post by: Chris Grimshaw on August 17, 2015, 05:05:44 PM
Hi All

Recently writtern up a PPC from Palermo Sicily, datelined Excelsior Palace Hotel, Palermo 25 12 15,

Cancelled London Paid 30th December 1915 – Carried by Naval Bag to London?

Chaty message, father writing to his daughter,

I kow that this hotel was used as a Convalescent Camp from December 1915 but information is scarce, found this reference online,

The Straits Times 6th December 1915 - Page 8

"Eight or nine thousand convalescent soldiers of the English Expeditionary Force in the Mediterranean will in a few weeks be in Palermo.  The Excelsior Palace hotel will be transformed into a huge convalescent home for English officers, a numerous party of which will also be lodged at the Villa Igiea.  This hotel however will continue to be open to its usual clients."

Does anyone have any further informatin.

Cheers

Chris
