Title: Salonika to Switzerland April 1918
Post by: Chris Grimshaw on October 03, 2015, 12:53:01 PM
Hi All

Trying to work out the route taken by a Registered cover from Salonika to Basle, Switzerland.

Cancelled FPO GX 21st April 1918, Censored 7/305 and sealed by a EXAMINED BY BASE Censor label, Firebrace EBC 3

Cover at some stage entered the French Military Postal System, CONTROLE POSTAL MILITARE label applied, tied by CONTROLE/6PAR L' AUTHORITE MILITARE oval Hand-stamp.

No Transit markings & received in Basle 17 V 18

The British APO dispatched 30 letter Bags for Taranto on the Itea route on 21st April 1918, plus 1 Letter Bag for Taranto & 2 for Malta. British mails for London would then travel on the Overland route via Chourbourg.

That's as far as I've got.....
