Title: Post WWII RAF cancels
Post by: Regis Hoffman on July 12, 2016, 02:38:23 AM
I have several 1946 covers with RAF cancels as follows:

- RAFPOST - JAPAN
- RAFPOST 183
- RAF POST - COLOMEO [from Ceylon]

Is there a philatelic reference for these markings?

Where was RAFPOST 183?

Thanks.

Regis

You need a copy of Ted Proud's book POSTAL HISTORY OF THE NAVAL & RAF POSTAL SERVICES, published in 1992

RAFPOST 183 was in Burma

More precise location is Meiktila, Burma.
See Bill Garrard's History of the RAF .Postal Service Overseas 1942-1957 (vol ii) -an update of John Smith's original work of 1957, with considerable new research - published by C & A Entwistle.
