Title: malaya 1952 air desptach letter service
Post by: Susan McEwen on September 01, 2016, 05:52:29 PM
the attached scan shows a  cover with an 'Air Despatch letter service' cachet.
I know that Austers were used to  deliver and bring back mail from jungle sites c1953, but does anyone know anything  about the cachet please ?

the few examples I've seen are addressed to  Francis Field, well know aero-philatelist! any know to  anyone else???

Susan

I have no definitive information on the cover and cachet, but in view of what you have said I would say that the cachet is privately produced and would not be surprised if it had been produced by Francis Field himself to be applied to his own philatelic mail.

Susan and Mike

I have to agree with Mike on this. I have and have had a large number of covers posted to Francis John Field 1895-1992 in some cases in numbers of 10 to 15 plus. Fields did issue price lists and was a very well known collector and stamp dealer in first flight covers and flight covers. I have not seen this cover before but would have to say I am 99% sure it is philatelic. Saying that I do have a lot of his first flight and special flight covers in my own collection.
