Hi,

I have been asked by a French collector for help with details of the WW1 British Army Post Office S109 date stamp, recorded by Proud at used in Motteville France Oct 18 - May 19.

1. The question being why so late in WW1 would the British be opening a stationary office in Normandy?
2. Is the date stamp likely to have only been used by troops in the local area?
3. Are there any publications which might tell what troops served in the Motteville area?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Regards Peter
