Can anyone give me guidance about some War Establishment numbers? I know that all the numbers relate to Prisoner of War 'camps' in the UK between 1939 to 1948. The 'V' denotes the volume number - : V= Home

Can anyone provide details as to what any of the establishment numbers were?

Thank you

Malcolm,

Look at the back issues of the F.P.H.S. journal on line. I would say within the last 2 or 3 years. If i remember rightly Peter Burrows did something on this.

                                                                            Regards

I don't think I can help you very much - my interest in Establishment numbers relates to BAOR, not the UK.  The following is an example of what I have collated to date - plenty more research needed:

A Prisoner of War Road Repair & Construction Company (Any Arm) BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
31 Dec 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2001/1
(ACI 722/47 dated 3 September 1947)
(BAOR GRO 3735/47 dated 8 August 1947) [Establishment List No 166]

A Prisoner of War Engineer Stores Park Company (Any Arm) BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
31 Dec 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2002/1
(ACI 722/47 dated 3 September 1947)
(BAOR GRO 3735/47 dated 8 August 1947) [Establishment List No 166]

A Prisoner of War Army Troops Company (Any Arm) BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
31 Dec 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2004/1
(ACI 722/47 dated 3 September 1947)
(BAOR GRO 3735/47 dated 8 August 1947) [Establishment List No 166]

A Prisoner of War Signal Administrative Company (Any Arm) BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
31 Dec 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2021/1
(ACI 722/47 dated 3 September 1947)
(BAOR GRO 3735/47 dated 8 August 1947) [Establishment List No 166]

A Prisoner of War General Hospital (200 Beds) (British Element) BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
30 Nov 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2041/1
(BAOR GRO 3084/46 dated 13 December 1946) [Establishment List No 133]

A Prisoner of War Road Base Depot of Medical Stores BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
31 Dec 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2042/1
(ACI 722/47 dated 3 September 1947)
(BAOR GRO 3735/47 dated 8 August 1947) [Establishment List No 166]

A Prisoner of War Field Sanitary Section BAOR
  -?-    Establishment approved :
31 Dec 1946 Establishment cancelled : EU/2043/1
(ACI 722/47 dated 3 September 1947)
(BAOR GRO 3735/47 dated 8 August 1947) [Establishment List No 166]

These establishments related to the British Element of the above type of unit.  The Army Council Instructions (ACI) and BAOR General Routine Orders (GRO) references related to the cancellation of the above establishments.  I have to undertake further research to find out when they were created.  The above does not necessarily relate to an individual unit title - there could be any number of units which had the same identical establishment.

To full identify the establishments you have listed you would need to look through Army Council Instructions - I have done that for BAOR (EU numbers), East Africa (EA numbers) and Korea (KOR and BCFK numbers).  These are available at The National Archives.
