A postcard sent from Aleksandrovsk De Kastri to Irkutsk by a sailor on the cruiser Askold. Postmarked on 23 August 1913, and in Irkutsk 14 days later. Datelined "De Kastri Bay, 15/28 August 1913, cruiser Askold." The sender writes, "Greetings from Sakhalin, from where we returned yesterday. While we are at sea far from Vladivostok I will have more free time to write." The Askold (the only warship with five funnels) was launched in 1900 and from 1908 was the flagship of the Siberian flotilla based in Vladivostok. She took part in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915, was based in Murmansk from 1917, and in 1918 was seized by the British and renamed HMS Glory IV.
