A bit of RN for a change - HMS Hood

On a cover addressed to Helensburgh, Scotland, Lt/Cdr J.G.P. Brownrigg writes to his wife. Postmarked 24th October 1939, it shows the straight line PASSED  BY  CENSOR (Daynes N604) and the ships name stamp. Hood had just returned to Loch Ewe after escorting convoy NV1 from Narvik in Norway.  Lt/Cdr Brownrigg was appointed Midshipman in 1921, he served in various ships  Cruisers, Destroyers etc, also from 1936 to 1938 spent time with the Royal Australian Navy. He lost his life on 24th May 1941  when Hood was blown up in action with the Bismarck, there were only three survivors from a crew of over 1400 men.

A most interesting and poignant cover.

The Edinburgh postmark suggests an East coast port such as Rosyth. I thought Loch Ewe mail was routed through Inverness.
