Iattach image of ab air letter post marked at East African Army P.O. 68 dated 4 April, 1945 and sent from 71371 Flight Liewtenant T S Rogers at RAF Dar Es Salaam. All seems alright with that as the P.O. was located a that location at that stage of the war. It's when you get to the censorship that things get a wee bit strange. Censored us R11 135 which is not listed by Collard and Garrard as being one of the nine R11s used in East Africa. It is also het with R11/160 which was a Base P.O. in East Africa. My question is has any other member seen the R11 used in East Africa before.

Nick Colley

Hi Ross, there's a good reason why R12/135 is not in Colley & Garrard: no one's reported it before! It's a new number, so thanks for that. I've entered it in the new recordings file. And yes, the R12/160 does appear to have been used in some sort of base censor role (our best guess to account for the multiple recordings with other RAF censors).

all the best for 2023.

Thanks Nick, that's the best part about collecting covers, you never know what turns up. At least with this one we know where it was used. As your publication says 160 only ever seen in conjunction with other censor markers.
