Can anybody tell me what the prefix FX denotes in a service mans identity number. As would such a prefix be given to naval personnel.

FX was naval
The letter 'F' was RNAS/Fleet Air Arm
The letter 'X' was introduced in 1925 to denote new entrants into the Navy with a different pay code, this continued until 1953
