On the Tower of London website there is a reference (and photo) relating to:

"Barrage balloon over the Tower of London, c1939, used as an obstacle to low-flying enemy aircraft. "

Could this be your RAF connection?

Hello Mike,

I did see the picture and thought that myself but looking into this was controlled by the RAF from Uxbridge. The only thing I found was that there was RAF involved with the prison and interrogation unit at the Tower during WWII.

                                                          Cheers
