As Cyprus was mentioned on the forum, I thought I would post this AMLC. It is from a member of the 7th Australian Cavalry Regiment which was deployed to Cyprus as part of a Commonwealth troops in readiness of a airborne invasion after the loss of Crete. They were there from 5 May, 1941 to 10 August, 1941. This item was written on 20 20 July, 1941, and as there were no Australian FPO on Cyprus, the letter passed through the Australian Base Postal Unit in Cairo where it was hit with Egyptian Postage Prepaid 5 post marker on 29 July, 1941. Fortunately Hitler decided against any further airborne invasions due to the heavy losses on Crete.
