I have received the following query:

I have recently acquired a POW lettersheet sent from a POW Camp in Latrun, Palestine to Italy 1944. The Address panel in the front is without any instructions save for the letters OFFRS printed in the top left-hand side of the panel. What does OFFRS stand for?

I passed this to Peter Burrows and he has responded thus:

The War Office pamphlets on abbreviations lists OFFR for officer
I do not know why it was printed on the address side of the form.  My examples were used by private soldiers

Can any other member provide additional information - OFFR stands for Officer - so does OFFRS stand for Officers or does it have some other meaning and why does it appear on POW lettersheets used by other ranks?

Many thanks, Mike  ???
