Attached scan shows a small piece with a cancel I've never seen before.

Not sure if these stamps were originally together or have been brought together to show this cancel.

If memory serves me correctly came to me with other material from John Slingsby.

IF genuine only explanation I can think of is an Official Stamp or cachet of some kind.  Alternately someone playing around with a 'John Bull' printing set.

never seen so far. would the British write "Salonica" or "Salonika"?
