Hello All

on the attached item there is a censor mark "CONTROLÉ / TOEZICHT". The first word is in French, the second word is in Dutch, both mean control or monitoring. Given this combination of languages I would place this mark to Belgian origin. Can anyone confirm that this is a Belgian mark? Perhaps even with a reference to an article or a book?

best wishes, Peter

Hi Peter,

The date stamp of Verviers would make this very likely a Belgian mark, also this is the same or similar working to that used with the Belgian control/censor labels from WW2 and the attached, shows the same on any Belgian cover.

I would say French and Flemish Control (French), Toezicht (Flemish), so normal for a Belgian label.

Sorry I do not have a reference.
