Puzzled here,

I have a cover from FPO 151 Dated 20 June 1917 Censor 5 / 1768

Security Phase III – Used by 151st Brigade 50th Division (using own cancel)

Proud record as 151 in this phase, K & C record 151? in this phase.

Not been through the complete records but first example if correct of a Brigade using their own datestamp in the swaps periods.

Comments anyone?

Chris

Looking at AK's ledger and index cards, he records somewhat conflicting details:

Ledger 5/1768 - 151 6 Cheshire 20 Jun 1917
                R39 Fe 17

Card 151 - 20 Ju 17 - 20 Oc 17 Lt GG Kirton 6 Cheshire 118 Bde (39 Div)

According to Proud, 151 was used by 118 Bde in Phase IV. 1/6 (TF) Bn Cheshire Rgt was part of 118 Bde and FWR records Lt, later Capt, Kirton as an officer of that Rgt.

I have also recorded from AK's material 5 separate examples of 2/Lt George G Kirton MC:
01/17 5/840
03/17 5/1714
09/17 5/1029
10/17 5/544
03/18 6/5706

Is this another example of a swap taking place earlier than Proud records? 118 Bde was part of 39 Division, which might explain the R39 record, although the date is wrong. Obviously, it is not possible to double check Alistair's recordings, unless we have the original covers.

AK's card also records 151 - 5/1541 21 Fe 17, with a note R50 21 Fe 17
Also 5/2279 12 My 17, with R50.

Both are repeated in the ledger. It suggests that during Phase III 151 Bde was using its own stamp, as noted in Proud
