Staying with Townsend, 

He next wrote home from the Union Club, Alexandria 7th August, Posted through Base APO Z 8 Aug 17, Censor again 3/3888. 

Talks about " going up the line tomorrow early, I expect it will take 3 days to get to Regiment, and there will be a long trek from railhead."  Mentions "5 days back in hospital with a sun attack"  " I am so heartily sick of the Base Camp in Alex, its the dirtiest camp I've been in.  Dust, Lice flea's and  bugs."

"I've put in for a Russian job surely they must want people who know something of the language, and know the country pretty well at this terrible time."  "i'd give anything to go there with some mission or Jewish Regiment or something that one hears about."
