I thought it was time to post an item from Italy WW1

When the five British Divisions arrived in Italy in November 1917, they brought with them the censor stamps they were using on the Western Front. In the middle of April 1918 a new distinctive shield censor (CM8) was introduced to replace the oblong type (CM6)

Numbers 1 - 10 , then 189 - 499 are recorded, the reason for the gap according to the late Frank Daniel, that these numbers were to be allocated to the 41st and 5th Divisions, who by the middle of April had returned to France

Attached is a cover sent to London, from the Commander of the  23rd Division, Major General J.M. Babington, showing both types of censors, datestamped  FPO D23 on 19th April 1918
