The book by Peter R.A.Kelly has an illustration on the cover 'Le Courrier a la prise d'Eau'. Does this translate as 'The mail carrier is taking on water'. I'm afraid my translation is not very good. The card I illustrate is from the Austrian Red Cross series No 27. Again my translation is not perfect but I think it says 'On our northern theatre of war a field mail is set in motion with horsemen, who have to transport the most important documents in the event of a blockage in the roads'.
