Hi All

Currently studying the 28th Division following their move into Turkey in 1918 onwards,

John Slingsby in "The Postal History of the Army of the Black Sea" published in 2004, recorded earliest and latest recorded dates of use,  with locations of the Division FPO's,

Currently we know the following

FPO D 28

Chanak 10 12 18 to 21 2 19

Moda 21 4 19 to 27 01 20         Note moved to Moda 13 04 19

FPO 83

Chanak 06 12 18 to 25 6 19

FPO 84

Kilid Bahr-Maidos  N.S.

Gallipoli 22 01 19 to 01 03 19

Feneraki 06 04 19 to 25 05 19

Erenkeui 20 07 19 to 03 11 19

FPO 85

Buyukdere 01 12 18 to 30 01 19     Now extended to 25 11 18 ERD ,  This is the only new recording I've found.

Pera 11 06 to 13 06 19

I viewed the late John Slingsby's material prior to auction but nothing extended these dates, subsequent study of John's material which I acquired shows nothing new from this Division.

Any details of new information welcomed.

Cheers

Chris

Following on from my first post on the 28th Division I can now ad a new LRD for FPO 85 at Buyukdere of 14th April 1919,

Following the move of FPO 85 to Pera where they were located within Headquarters, Allied Corps of Occupation, on the 16th April 1919, currently only recorded open 11th to 13th June 1919.

I have two covers both OHMS and registered dated 11th & 13th June 1919, both certified Official by a Major Woodcock RMA who commanded the detachment of Royal Marines manning the forts on the Bosporus and sent to O/C Royal Marines, Mudros, no non Official mail is currently recorded.

This may suggest that "ordinary" battalion mail went via APO Y which from 12th May 1919 was located at Pera and FPO 85 only handled mail from Brigade HQ.

Reports on any mail welcomed.

Finally I attach a scan of a FSPC sent by Geoffrey Hill who was Orderly room Sergeant 3rd Battn Royal Marines based at Mudros, Posted through FPO 85 1st December 1918, card is signed by Geoffrey and dated 25th Nov 1918.

A detachment of Royal Marines was attached to 85th Brigade, details shown on write-up, this card suggests these Marines were from 3rd Battalion and Geoffrey was part of this detachment.

Friends views welcomed and details of any new information from this Division during their time in Turkey.

Cheers

Chris
