Hello everyone,

I have recently found a letter that I received from my great uncle, regarding his service in the army during WW2. He mentioned that he set sail from England to Bombay on the Troop Ship 'Empire Pride'. Now I've found a few references regarding this ship. Has any members out there come across this ship in there research? Or any covers etc from this ship? Probably a long shot but I have got to ask.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi Stewart,
If you go onto this site, http://www.convoyweb.org.uk/hague/index.html, and type in the name of the ship you will find a list of every convoy Empire Pride sailed in including the dates and routes. I haven't opened any of the convoys the ship sailed in, but it is likely you will also find for each convoy the names of the other ships in the convoy including the escorts. Often it will also list the number of troops being carried by each troopship.
I have frequently used this site to research convoys. It is a tremendous resource.
Best wishes
Jim

Just come across my copy of "THE WINSTON SPECIALS" Troopships via the Cape 1940 - 1943 by Archie Munro, published by Maritime Books in 2006

"Empire Pride" gets six listings in the index, but what might be of interest to you, there is a superb photograph of the ship between pages 176 & 177 taken during machinery trials in 1941. Ref TRK 4/4/84/2 from the Glasgow City Libraries & Archives. They may be able to help, if you need a copy
